Since the early 1990s UL Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry is maintaining the Department of Optometry and Vision Science. At the moment, it serves as the only opportunity for studying optometry in the Baltic States at both Bachelor and Master levels. One of the founders of this unique study program was prof. Ivars Lācis.

During the study process theoretical as well as practical knowledge based on the problems of vision science and primary vision care are acquired. Professional Master’s Degree in Clinical Optometry and professional qualification of ‘Optometrist’ each year is received by 15 new experts.
